Argentina has not won an official Fifa tournament since 1993 and the pressure is over Batista’s shoulders as Argentina are hosts. At their own soil players are pressed to the wall and the only escape is to win the competition. After the huge failure in WC Argentina needs to show a different face.

I personally must admit that I’m more than pleased to see that Zanetti is in the squad. This ageless player is a perfect example for a true professional. Although his age advances unstoppably he remains one of the best right backs in the World. He’ll help a lot the weak defense of the hosts. Honestly – except Zanetti I cannot eye any other classy player in the back of the team. Milito used to be a rock in the centre of the defense, but too many injuries stopped his development and also i doubt his fitness is at its best. Argentina defense is their weakest link.

The midfield looks good enough for the tournament with the presence of hard working defensive midfielders such as Cambiasso, Banega and Mascherano. Cambiasso absence was obvious in the last WC. With great box to box midfielders Argentina will be solid upfront.I would love to see Pastore as regular, but most probably the promising player will add freshness and creativity from the bench when his time arrives. With a good mixture of hard workiness and creativity the central zone of the team is probably the best in the competition.

The attack do not need any comment as it is full of young and talented players which goalscoring skills are amazing.

Player to watch: Yes, it’s Leo Messi of course ;)
